West Java was once a top tourism destination after Yogyakarta due to its beautiful nature, friendly and smiling people, and delicious cuisine. Unfortunately, its tourism reputation has dimmed even as accessibility infrastructure has improved. The province with the densest population in Indonesia has instead become the main target source of domestic tourists for other regions.
Daniel G. Nugraha, the newly elected Chairman of DPD ASITA West Java, revealed that he will focus on activating programs that can increase business transactions for members and business interests, as well as expand business networks and build new networks.
The first program that becomes his priority is to conduct roadshows within the province. These roadshows are important so that tourism stakeholders in cities and regencies within West Java Province can get to know each other. After getting acquainted, the travel industry in West Java can be revitalized.
“Hopefully through the roadshows, we can consolidate West Java tourism multi-stakeholders to be in the same carriage with ASITA as the locomotive,” said Daniel.
This program is related to the next program which is also his mission, namely to restore West Java as a main destination rather than as a main market.
“By strengthening tourism in West Java, it can help promote this destination to other regions as well as abroad,” he said.
The next program is roadshows abroad. West Java’s inbound tourism actually already has market shares such as the Netherlands, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and Saudi Arabia. The market ranges from leisure tourists to schools from Singapore that conduct field trips (a kind of study tour in Indonesia).
The fourth program is to conduct trainings (workshops, training) tailored to the needs of members such as training related to digitalization. This program focuses on improving the capability and quality of human resources in the tour operator and travel agent industry in West Java.
In carrying out association activities, the Chairman of DPD ASITA West Java does not want to rely on the budget from the government. As an association that shelters travel companies, DPD ASITA West Java must be able to be self-reliant with its programs. Nevertheless, the results of the activities carried out will return to the community and contribute income to the region, so it still requires support from the local government. (Yun Damayanti)
